CareeoCity – Mentor Code of Conduct

CareeoCity

Mentor Code of Conduct

Guidelines for Mentors

As a mentor on CareeoCity, you are shaping the futures of young mentees. You represent the platform's core values of trust, objectivity, and empowerment. This document outlines the expected standards of behaviour to ensure a safe, high-quality experience for both you and your mentees.
Section 1

What Mentors Must Do

Professional Behaviour & Communication Style
1

Be Punctual and Prepared: Join sessions exactly on time and review the mentee's preliminary notes to maximise value.

2

Maintain a Professional Environment: Join video calls from a quiet, well-lit, distraction-free space with stable internet and neat attire.

3

Use Respectful, Clear Language: Speak clearly and politely, adjusting vocabulary to match the mentee's level.

4

Practice Active Listening: Give undivided attention. Let the mentee finish their thoughts before you respond.

Unbiased Guidance & Ethical Boundaries
5

Provide Objective, Unbiased Advice: Discuss colleges, exams, and career paths based on your best knowledge without bias.

6

Share Both Pros and Cons: Always provide a balanced view — explain challenges and drawbacks alongside benefits.

7

Set Realistic Expectations: Be honest about competition and workload without being discouraging.

8

Maintain Strict Confidentiality: Treat all conversations, academic scores, and personal doubts as strictly private.

Mentee Handling — Confused or Emotional Mentees
9

Act as a Confidence Booster: Acknowledge efforts, validate feelings, and remind them that confusion about the future is normal.

10

Meet Them Where They Are: Adjust guidance to their confidence level. Speak patiently and calmly with anxious mentees.

11

Provide Clear, Actionable Next Steps: End every session with a simplified step-by-step action plan. Every mentee should leave feeling more focused and confident.

Platform Rules & Safety
12

Keep All Interactions On-Platform: Conduct every chat, audio call, and video session exclusively through CareeoCity.

13

Report Safety Concerns Immediately: Flag any signs of self-harm, harassment, or severe mental distress to the CareeoCity Support Team at once.

14

Respect Time Boundaries: End sessions politely when time is up — wrap up smoothly rather than cutting off abruptly.

Section 2

What Mentors Must Not Do

Professional Behaviour & Communication Style
1

Do Not Ghost or Cancel Last Minute: Never miss a session or cancel without at least 24 hours' notice, barring true emergencies.

2

Do Not Dominate the Conversation: Avoid monologues or lectures. Mentorship is a two-way dialogue.

3

Do Not Use Unprofessional Language: Never use profanity, inappropriate slang, or overly casual language.

4

Do Not Attend Unprepared: Reviewing the mentee's details beforehand is mandatory — unprepared sessions lead to irrelevant advice.

5

Do Not Discourage: Never speak negatively about any career choice or the mentee's abilities.

6

Do Not Rush Confused Mentees: Take time to guide thoughtfully — never push a mentee to choose without proper discussion.

7

Do Not Dismiss Emotions: Address low confidence and emotional distress with empathy, not indifference.

8

Do Not End Without Next Steps: Never leave a mentee more confused than before. Every session must add real value.

Unbiased Guidance & Ethical Boundaries
9

Do Not Show Institutional Elitism: Never claim your college or stream is the "only path to success" or belittle other institutions.

10

Do Not Guarantee Outcomes: Never promise admissions, specific exam ranks, or job placements. You are a guide, not a broker.

11

Do Not Do Their Work for Them: Never solve homework, write assignments, or draft college essays. Guide, don't execute.

12

Do Not Give Non-Academic Advice: Do not act as a therapist or financial advisor. Gently refer mentees who need professional psychological help.

Mentee Handling — Confused or Emotional Mentees
13

Do Not Belittle or Judge: Never mock low grades, lack of knowledge, or "silly" questions. Create a judgment-free zone.

14

Do Not Push Your Own Ambitions: Never force a mentee toward an exam or career simply because it worked for you.

15

Do Not Overwhelm: Avoid dumping too many resources on a mentee already showing signs of anxiety.

Platform Rules & Safety
16

Do Not Share Personal Contact Info: Never share your personal phone number, email, or social media handles.

17

Do Not Ask for Mentee Details: Never ask for the mentee's phone number, home address, personal email, or social accounts.

18

Do Not Arrange Physical Meetings: Strictly avoid suggesting, accepting, or hinting at any in-person meet-up.

19

Do Not Solicit Direct Payments: Never ask for or accept money, gifts, or outside compensation from mentees or parents.

20

Do Not Promote Third-Party Services: Never use sessions to sell, pitch, or promote coaching institutes, paid materials, or outside courses.

⚠️

Sharing or requesting personal contact info, moving communication off-platform, soliciting outside payments, arranging physical meetings, or exhibiting abusive or harassing behaviour will result in immediate and permanent removal from CareeoCity.
